Thomas Wilson is the full-time tech sales executive who moonlights as one of the most compelling stories in professional pickleball. Based in New Braunfels, Texas, Wilson played college tennis at both Purdue and the University of Texas (where he was a five-star junior recruit but ended up as a bench warmer on the #2-ranked team in the country). Injuries cut his tennis career short, and he spent a full decade away from racket sports, building a career as a Senior Account Executive at AlertMedia in Austin. Then his parents introduced him to pickleball as a casual family hobby, and somehow this "casual hobby" turned into wins over JW Johnson, Tyson McGuffin, and other top-tier pros.
But the real headline is his health journey. Wilson has Wolf-Parkinson-White syndrome, a condition where three extra electrical wires in his heart can trigger episodes of 300 beats per minute. He won an MLP championship with Drew Brees' LA Mad Drops just eight days after heart surgery. Eight. Days. Beyond the court, Wilson and his wife Brittany went through a long fertility journey before adopting their daughters Holland and Haven, and they have a golden retriever named Nash who probably has better name recognition than most pickleball sponsors. Sponsored by Electrum Pickleball, Wilson plays with the Model E paddle and brings an energy to every match that makes you forget he's also closing software deals between tournaments.
