JW Johnson is pickleball royalty, and that's not just because his entire family plays on tour. Hailing from Pittsburg, Kansas before relocating to Naples, Florida, JW grew up in a household where pickleball was basically a second language. His mother and sister Jorja Johnson are both top-tier pros, making the Johnsons one of the most dominant families in the sport. JW made history as the youngest player ever to win a men's singles title at just 19, and his 2022 season was the stuff of legends: 47 medals and 3 triple crowns.

What makes JW so dangerous is his blend of raw power and sneaky patience. Unlike a lot of tennis converts who just try to blast everything, he's mastered the dink game and the reset, combining finesse with firepower in a way that drives opponents crazy. He trains five to six times a week for hours on end, often drilling with Jorja and other top pros in Florida. He's notoriously particular about court conditions (don't get him started on pebbles affecting ball bounce) and brings an intensity to every match that's earned him a reputation as one of the most focused competitors on tour. Currently navigating paddle sponsorship changes heading into 2026, JW remains one of the most complete and feared players in professional pickleball. Follow him on Instagram @jdubpickleball.

"A player needs to have a ton of patience for sure, a little bit dinky with the resetting, not just powering through like most tennis players would."
