Eric Roddy is a PPA Tour pro based in Charlotte, North Carolina, who took one of the more unconventional paths to professional pickleball. A former Division III All-American tennis player at Sewanee: The University of the South, Roddy rediscovered pickleball in 2020 while pursuing his MBA at the University of Georgia, learning from pro player and coach Drake Bernstein on a backyard court. After graduating in 2022, he started entering tournaments and landed a PPA contract by fall 2023.
What makes Roddy's story unique is that he balances pro play with a full-time job at Bank of America. He trains with players like Jack Sock, travels to over 20 cities a year for tournaments, and has made appearances on ESPN and the SportsCenter Top 10. Before pickleball, he coached tennis in Spain (he's fluent in Spanish), served as interim men's head coach at Swarthmore College, and even worked as a football journalist, editing CBS Sports' Dolphins Report and writing for Pro Football Network. Sponsored by PROXR, Roddy brings long wingspan, slick net play, and a slice game honed on the tennis court.
