Sofia Sewing is the kind of player who makes you wonder what took her so long to find pickleball, and then you remember she was busy winning tennis titles around the world first. The half-Ecuadorian, bilingual athlete was a standout junior tennis player who became the first to win back-to-back Eddie Herr titles in the 14s and 16s divisions. She racked up four ITF singles titles and a jaw-dropping 14 ITF doubles titles, including a W60 Rome Open victory, before knee injuries forced her to step away from tennis in April 2024. Her best friend from tennis, Domi Schaefer, had been pestering her to try pickleball for ages, and once Sofia finally picked up a paddle near the Delray Beach Tennis Center, it was game over for everyone else.

Sewing's transition to pro pickleball was absurdly fast. By 2025, she was posting an 80% win rate across 115 matches, including an 88.6% clip in singles. She grabbed wins at the PWR India Masters and APP Fort Lauderdale, and her powerful groundstrokes and court coverage made her an instant threat in every bracket she entered. Based in Boca Raton, Florida, Sofia trains daily (often twice) and says pickleball is actually easier on her knees than tennis was. At just 25, she's already one of the most exciting crossover stories in the sport and shows no signs of slowing down.

Fun Fact

"I found pickleball through my best friend from tennis growing up... she would call me and always try to convince me to switch over, but I was very much still in my pro career... she finally just convinced me to try it."
