Ammar Wazir is a professional pickleball player out of Hoffman Estates, IL who has been on an absolute tear in singles competition. With a 65.6% career win rate in singles and a jaw-dropping 77.8% clip in 2025, the former University of Illinois Chicago tennis player has established himself as one of the most dangerous singles specialists on the APP and PPA tours. He won back-to-back men's singles gold medals at the APP Chicago Open, including a gutsy 20-18, 15-9 finals victory over Ronan Camron.
What makes Wazir's story particularly impressive is how quickly he's improved. His overall win rate jumped from 37% in 2024 to 64.5% in 2025, a leap that's almost unheard of at the professional level. He's reached championship Sunday at the AARP Open and logged deep runs at events like the APP Fort Lauderdale Open and PPA Veolia Cape Coral Open. Still enrolled at UIC, Wazir is balancing college coursework with a legitimate professional pickleball career, which is quite the scheduling flex.
