Kailas Shekar is proof that the tech industry's most dangerous export isn't AI, it's pickleball obsession. A 25-year-old software engineer who worked at Hertz, Shekar grew up in Mysuru, India, moved to the Bay Area, and made the jump to professional pickleball in 2023 after a knee injury ended his tennis career. He plays on the Aireo Sports pro team and uses a SpeedUp Ice 16 paddle.
Originally dismissive of pickleball as a "simplified version of tennis," Shekar quickly discovered how wrong that assessment was once he stepped on court against actual pros. With only about two years of pickleball experience, he's already competing in PPA Main Draws and building a following on Instagram @kailas.pickle. He represents a growing wave of young, athletic, internationally-raised players bringing fresh energy to the pro tour.
