Alex Neumann is a professional pickleball player based in New York City who balances life on the PPA Tour with a full-time tech career. Originally from San Mateo, California, Neumann grew up playing competitive junior tennis at Menlo School, where his team won the Central Coast Section title three out of four years and the Northern California Championships twice. He walked on to Northwestern University's tennis team as a practice squad player, graduating in 2020 into the teeth of the COVID-19 pandemic. After working on Pete Buttigieg's presidential campaign in Iowa and landing a tech job at Via in New York, Neumann rediscovered pickleball, a sport he'd first explored for his Menlo senior project, and found himself waking up at 5:30 AM and driving 45 minutes just to play.
Neumann made his PPA Tour debut in 2022, reaching the semifinals in his very first tournament. He has since competed in over 30 professional events and more than 100 career matches, earning recognition as one of the tour's most entertaining personalities, nicknamed the "Visor King" for his signature headwear. Known for his big forehand drive and relentless energy, Neumann has notched wins over notable opponents including former ATP pro Sam Querrey and faced top players like Tyson McGuffin in deep tournament runs. He remains one of the few PPA-contracted pros who holds a full-time job outside the sport, and also serves as CEO of Backyard Pickleball Builders.
