Best Fall and Winter Pickleball Tournament Destinations: 2026–27

The strongest fall-and-winter pickleball tournament destinations in Tournament Pickle’s current listings are the Phoenix metro, Dallas–Fort Worth, greater Houston, and Southwest Florida. Phoenix stands out for winter depth: 11 of its 26 currently listed events fall in January through March. Texas and Florida offer more total choices, but most of those listings are still concentrated before New Year’s Day.

That makes the practical answer less about naming one ‘best’ city and more about matching a destination to your dates. For an October or November trip, Texas and Florida have broad inventories. For a January-through-March trip, Phoenix has the clearest lead in the data available today, with the Coachella Valley, Las Vegas, St. George, and Southwest Florida also worth watching as organizers add events.

What Tournament Pickle’s current data shows

We analyzed Tournament Pickle’s tournament index at 9:00 a.m. Pacific on October 6, 2026. The window ran from that moment through March 31, 2027. We counted U.S. listings with a usable city and state, at least one event, no cancellation flag, and no questionable-date flag.

The result was 715 U.S. tournament listings. Another 132 listings in the same date window were outside the United States or lacked the location fields required for this comparison. These are listings, not unique players, court counts, or proof of local participation.

For transparency, each metro total uses a fixed list of city names rather than an adjustable radius. Phoenix includes Mesa, Glendale, Surprise, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, Peoria, Goodyear, Sun City, and Sun City West. The other metro totals were built the same way from their surrounding cities.

1. Phoenix metro: the best current winter inventory

Phoenix is the most convincing January-through-March choice in this snapshot. The metro has 26 listings across the full window, including 11 after New Year’s Day. Mesa alone accounts for 13, while Glendale has five and Surprise has three.

That distribution matters. A traveler does not have to rely on one organizer or one venue, and nearby cities create alternatives if a division fills or a date changes. Start with tournaments near Mesa, then compare Glendale and Surprise before committing to flights or lodging.

Phoenix is not automatically the right choice for every player. Check whether the event offers your age and skill combination, whether a partner must register separately, and whether play is indoor, outdoor, or covered. Use NOAA’s official U.S. Climate Normals to understand typical conditions, but treat normals as historical averages—not a forecast for tournament week.

2. Texas: deepest fall selection, thinner published winter calendar

Texas leads the state totals with 79 qualifying listings, and its two largest destination clusters are Dallas–Fort Worth and Houston. Dallas–Fort Worth has 24 listed events in the study window; greater Houston has 22. Together, however, only five are currently dated January through March.

For a fall trip, that breadth is useful. In DFW, the listed activity is spread across Allen, Farmers Branch, Dallas, Fort Worth, Denton, Hurst, and other nearby cities. Browse events near Farmers Branch and expand the search radius to compare the whole metroplex. Around Houston, Missouri City has eight listings, Houston five, Sugar Land four, and Katy three; the Houston-area search is the best starting point.

Do not read the small winter count as evidence that Texas goes quiet after December. The monthly database totals drop from 322 remaining October listings to 199 in November, 96 in December, 50 in January, 28 in February, and 20 in March. That pattern mainly shows how far ahead events have been published.

3. Southwest Florida: several cities, not one tournament hub

Southwest Florida ties greater Houston with 22 current listings, but its value comes from the cluster. Punta Gorda has five, Englewood four, and Cape Coral, Sarasota, and Bradenton three each. That creates options along the Gulf Coast instead of forcing the trip around one city.

Begin with Punta Gorda tournaments, then check the neighboring cities before choosing a hotel. Central Florida has nine current listings in our defined group, including six in Orlando, but none is yet dated after December 31. Again, that is a publication-timing caveat, not a prediction of zero winter events.

4. The desert alternatives: Coachella, Las Vegas, and St. George

Players who want a smaller destination can build a shortlist around three western areas. The Coachella Valley has seven current listings, including three after New Year’s Day. Five are in Palm Desert, so Palm Desert’s tournament page is the most efficient place to watch.

The Las Vegas Valley has six listings, five of them in Las Vegas itself. The St. George area also has six, split across St. George and neighboring communities in our grouping. Compare Las Vegas with St. George if your dates are flexible. The current counts are modest, but each area already has at least one post-New-Year listing.

How to choose the right destination event

A busy market is only useful if one tournament fits you. Before booking, work through these checks:

  • Division fit: Confirm the exact age, skill, gender, and team combination. A city with 20 events may still have only one bracket that works.
  • Partner status: Verify whether both players must complete registration and payment, and whether “needs partner” is a confirmed entry or a waitlist state.
  • Format: Round robin, pool play, and double elimination produce different schedules and minimum-match expectations. Our tournament format guide explains the tradeoffs.
  • Total cost: Add registration, event fees, service fees, hotel nights, local transportation, and changeable airfare. Use our 2026 tournament cost study as a benchmark, not a quote for a specific event.
  • Rules and equipment: Read the organizer’s rules. If the tournament uses USA Pickleball rules, check the current official rulebook and confirm your paddle on the official approved paddle list.
  • Travel risk: Favor refundable lodging until your division and partner are confirmed. Recheck the source registration page immediately before the cancellation deadline.

The important limitation: this is a live booking snapshot

Tournament calendars are not published evenly. In this analysis, 617 of 715 qualifying listings begin before January 1, while only 98 begin during January through March. Organizers will add later events, and existing dates, divisions, fees, or venue details can change.

Use the counts to identify where you have options now, not to declare a permanent winner. Search the live Tournament Pickle tournament calendar, open the original registration source, and verify the details that affect your trip before paying.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best winter pickleball tournament destination right now?

Phoenix has the strongest current January-through-March inventory in this analysis, with 11 listed events across the metro. That may change as organizers publish more winter dates.

Why are there fewer January, February, and March tournaments listed?

The database is a live planning snapshot. Many organizers have not yet published later winter events, so the smaller counts mainly reflect the shorter publication horizon and should not be treated as a demand forecast.

How far ahead should I book tournament travel?

Register only after confirming your division and partner requirements, and prefer refundable travel until the bracket or organizer confirms your place. Recheck the source page before cancellation deadlines because dates and divisions can change.
